Proof of Legality

The proof of legality is an A6 certificate that comes with every number plate order from Utopia Plates. It is added to your order automatically, so there is nothing to put in your basket. The certificate records that the plates were made by us, a DVLA-registered number plate supplier, to the British Standard for retroreflecting number plates, BS AU 145e, and it gives you a document to keep with the plates.

What it is

• An A6 printed certificate of legality.
• A record that the plates on your vehicle were made to BS AU 145e by a registered supplier.
• A document for your own records, or to show at an MOT or a roadside check if a plate is questioned.

What it is not

A plate is legal because of what is on it: the Charles Wright font at the prescribed size and spacing, a single shade of black, no tint or pattern, and the supplier name, postcode and standard mark on the plate itself. The certificate confirms that our plates are made that way. It does not replace those markings, and it is not a substitute for the documents you show us when you order, which are listed on the valid documents page.

How to receive yours

Order plates as normal. The certificate is packed with the plates and arrives in the same parcel. It applies to every plate style we sell, from printed plates to 4D 5mm plates, and to every size. If you order plates through the plate builder the certificate is included in the same way.
