Number Plates in Darlington

Darlington sits about 17 miles south of Durham with the A1(M) running past the west of the town, so the journey up to us is one road. We are at Dragonville Industrial Park, off Junction 62, making plates while customers wait between 9:00am and 4:30pm, Monday to Saturday.

Two ways to do it

Order online and choose collection, and your plates can be made and fitted within the hour of ordering, during opening hours, with fitting Monday to Friday. Or turn up without warning: no appointment is needed and a pair of plates takes around ten minutes once your documents have been checked.

Delivery is the third option and the slowest, because the documents have to come to us in the post before anything is made, which takes a few days.

The documents

Two of them: one proving your name and address, one proving entitlement to the registration. A driving licence and a V5C logbook are the usual combination, but the full list is longer than most people expect. Your proof of address must be in your own name, while the entitlement document can be in someone else's.

Fitting while you wait

£9.99 a plate, £19.98 for a pair, Monday to Friday, no appointment. Sticky pads are our recommendation because they hold well and leave the bumper undrilled; screws, plate holders and velcro are all available. Road legal plates from elsewhere can be fitted too.

Letter styles and shapes

Everything is made to the British Standard, BS AU 145e. We do not make show plates or tinted plates. The styles:

Legal flags can go on any of them, including the Union Flag, St George's Cross, the Saltire, the Welsh Dragon and the Green Flash EV identifier. Shapes held in stock include standard, shortened, hex, square 4x4, oversize, trailer, motorbike and Japanese import, and 4D laser cut is worth seeing in person.

Private registrations

There are over 74 million DVLA registrations to search and 60,000+ pre-owned registrations, in dateless, prefix, suffix and current style. If you would rather talk it through than click through it, that is what the counter is for.

Road legal, every time

Each plate carries the supplier name, postcode and BS AU number the law asks for, with Charles Wright characters on reflective BS AU 145e material. What you drive away with is what an MOT tester expects to see, which is why we make no show plates or tinted plates.

Assigning a registration

That part is the DVLA's, not ours. It needs the V5C and either the V750 Certificate of Entitlement or the V778 Retention Document, the vehicle taxed and MOT'd, and the online service is open 7am to 7pm daily. The Done-For-You Paperwork Service handles it from a photograph of your V5C if you would rather not.

Trailer and caravan plates

Towing means the trailer needs its own plate, and we make those to the same standard as everything else, while you wait.

Prices before you set off

Printed plates from £29.99 a pair, raised styles above that, fitting £9.99 a plate. A private registration starts at £250 with the £80 DVLA fee included; the pricing guide lists the tiers.
